Book Arts Workshop and Reception
Please visit the Stevenson Library to view the new exhibit: “Resilience : Sculptural Artist’s Books” by Carolyn Shattuck , MFA class of 1989. A Book Arts Workshop, and the exhibit reception will be held on Thursday, May 16th beginning at 1 pm.
During the last twenty years Carolyn has developed a body of sculptural Artists books that address Endangered Species. Over sixty books have been collected by university Special Book Collections including The Smithsonian Museum. Carolyn lives in Vermont where she teaches and makes Books that relate to social and environmental issues.
Sproj help!
Calling all seniors! We have lots of help available as you get to the finish line:
- Shut up & Sproj meets Mondays and Fridays from 3:30-5 pm in room 402. This is simply quiet time to work on Sproj alongside your peers.
- Sproj Clinics for citation & formatting help on Wednesday, April 24 & Monday, April 29 from 4 – 6 pm on the first floor near the research help desk.
- Extended library hours: The library will be open until 3 am Sunday, April 28, Monday, April 29, and Tuesday, April 30.
- 1:1 help with citations and formatting is available by appointment.

Visible Mending Workshop!
Join us on Thursday, April 11 from 4-6 pm for an afternoon of Visible Mending with writer, historian, and expert mender, Kate Sekules (aka Dr. Mend). We will learn about the fascinating history of mending and its importance to today’s sustainability movement. Bring a piece of your own clothing to repair and learn some simple techniques to preserve and co-design your wardrobe. Tea, snacks, and mending supplies will be provided!
Kate Sekules is a mending advocate, activist, educator, and researcher. She is assistant professor of fashion history at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, and of “Mending Fashion” at Parsons School of Design, and lectures frequently (Textile Society of America, American Studies Association, Association of Dress Historians, FIT, RISD, British Museum, etc). She hosts #MendMarch on Instagram as well as regular mending groups, and runs MAWG (Mending Archives Working Group), and visiblemending.org, a crowd sourced world map. Sekules is author of MEND! A Refashioning Manual and Manifesto (Penguin, 2020), and her doctoral dissertation is titled A History and Theory of Mending (Bard Graduate Center, 2025).
Writing the Introduction and Conclusion of Your Senior Project
Wondering how to tackle the introduction and conclusion, those tricky but important moments in your project? Please join us next week–Wednesday, April 10, at 7 pm in Olin LC 115–for a faculty discussion and Q&A. Professors Rob Culp, Lauren Curtis, Jim Keller, and Olga Touloumi will share advice and take your questions.
This event will perhaps be most helpful for students writing projects in the Divisions of Languages and Literature and Social Studies, and in the program of Art History and Visual Culture, but it may be relevant for projects in other divisions and programs. All interested seniors are encouraged to attend.

Smolny archives exhibit!
Archives Do Not Burn: The Smolny Archive exhibition
on view April 1- April 15 in the Sussman room on the second floor of Stevenson library
Opening reception: Monday, April 1, 4-5:30 p.m.
Smolny Archive Project presents an exhibition about the history of Smolny College and its partnership with Bard, using archival documents and artifacts. Drinks and snacks will be provided at the reception. This exhibit will be on display in the Sussman reading room on the 2nd floor of Stevenson Library from April 1st to April 15th.
