Scheduling:
At the beginning of each semester, student academic schedules are added into ASIMUT so that lessons and chamber music coaching’s can be scheduled accordingly. Students must notify the conservatory lesson scheduler of any course changes that happen during the add/drop period, as these will not be automatically reflected in ASIMUT. Students should keep in mind that heavy work schedules (campus jobs) may not be possible for Conservatory students. Work schedules and extracurricular activities cannot be considered when scheduling lessons and coachings.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policies:
- Lesson and coaching times, and changes in lesson/coaching times, must be arranged through the Conservatory office, not privately with the teacher, since any changes may affect other students’ schedules.
- Cancelled lessons and chamber coachings will be made up only at the discretion of the teacher.
- Generally, the office will not cover transportation costs for lessons that are rescheduled at the instigation of the student.
- The Lesson Scheduling Office could arrange rehearsal times for those groups who may have difficulties scheduling regular rehearsals.
- Unexcused absences or excessive tardiness may result in grade penalties, loss of scholarship, probation or, in extreme cases, dismissal from the Conservatory.

Chamber Music groups are expected to rehearse at least two times before each coaching.

Grading Policies:
Studio Instruction
This course is required for all conservatory students and consists of 13 one-hour private lessons per semester with members of the Bard College Conservatory faculty. Studio instruction grades are determined by a combination of several factors, including but not limited to: attendance, preparation, completion of assignments, technical and artistic improvement, and recital/jury evaluation. Perfect attendance in studio instruction is expected, and last-minute absences will be considered excused only in the case of a documented emergency.
The following attendance guidelines apply to all studios:
- Every unexcused absence lowers your overall grade one step on the grading scale (e.g., A to A-).
- Any student who misses three lessons without properly notifying the scheduling office and instructor will receive an immediate failing grade for the semester.
Individual instructors may have additional grading policies which would be shared with the studio at the beginning of the semester.
