Observe all vehicle traffic laws such as lane travel, stop signs, legal passing of other vehicles, etc. Drive on pavement whenever possible.

All passengers should keep hands, arms, legs and feet within the confines of the golf cart at all times when the cart is in motion.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

When the golf cart is not in use, place the golf cart control lever in the “Neutral” position, turn off and remove the key.

Never leave the keys in the golf cart when unattended around campus.

If you signed out the vehicle you are responsible for it.

Never back up without looking to see what is behind the cart.

Never shift gears while the vehicle is in motion.

When driving, maintain adequate distance between vehicles.

THE ROLE OF ACCESSIBILITY CARTS

A. Until 7pm, golf carts drive accessibility-needs people from the Commencement tent to Blithewood. They can keep that loop going until 7pm.

B. After 7pm, golf carts are to drive to the turnaround circle (next to Blithewood parking lot), pick up ACCESSIBILITY passengers at the MARKED pick up area on that circle, drive them to the bottom of the hill where big buses are lined up to drive to all parking lots (Blithewood Rd-Garden Rd intersection), and return to to the pick up area on the circle to take the next round of mobility-challenged passengers down to the buses. Cindy Mauter will be staffing the circle pick up area to load those carts for efficiency.

C. With the exception of Trish Fleming, from 7pm – 11pm carts run that short loop. There will be a few carts throughout the evening that will inevitably get a call from “command central” to leave to collect an accessibility needs person or a Trustee somewhere else on campus. As soon as they have completed that request, the cart is to return to the Blithewood-Bus pick up area loop.

BUSES and VANS ARE THE BEST EQUIPPED VEHICLES TO RETURN PEOPLE TO THEIR CARS – all can take most handicapped individuals, a few are equipped to take on a wheelchair.

Golf carts are very slow, dangerous for passengers, and there are a limited number of them. The aim for golf carts, after 7pm, is to get the mobility challenged guests at Blithewood down to the buses. Cindy will manage the families/groups of 4 and more with one or two mobility-challenge passengers, asking those in the group who can walk down the hill to do so and meet their family/guest members.

ACCESSIBILITY includes the elderly and exhausted; encourage the family members who can, to walk.

Allow one able-bodied family member to ride with an accessibility passenger if needed.

GOLF CART SAFETY This training includes the proper procedures for operating and maintaining golf carts.
