Our first chart shows that the country is already in its worst condition since the beginning of the century in terms of the share of the working age population who have a job (our projections are based on the last monthly data for 2011).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/multiplier-effect\/files\/2012\/02\/ch_n1_Greece-Employment.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3707\" title=\"ch_n1_Greece Employment\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/multiplier-effect\/files\/2012\/02\/ch_n1_Greece-Employment.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/multiplier-effect\/files\/2012\/02\/ch_n1_Greece-Employment.jpg 806w, https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/multiplier-effect\/files\/2012\/02\/ch_n1_Greece-Employment-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is hard to see how laying off another 150,000 workers from the public sector, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/02\/11\/us-greece-austerity-idUSTRE81A03L20120211\" target=\"_blank\">as requested for a new international loan<\/a>, will help Greece to recover.<\/p>\n<p>In the next chart we compare government tax revenues to employment, where tax data are from the sectoral accounts of Greece.
