\"\"As we begin spring semester, the Bard\u00a0Reading\u00a0Initiative<\/b> and the Dean of the College would like to announce a call for student-organized reading groups and circles. The deadline for Proposals February 14, 2025. Submit your proposal here.<\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reading\u00a0groups do not need to be linked to a particular course, curriculum, or program. On the contrary, we hope that students take advantage of this opportunity to read books for entertainment or edification beyond the formal structure of classes. Books could be fiction, non-fiction, theory, philosophy, poetry, science writing, or anything students choose. We want to encourage sustained\u00a0reading\u00a0as an enjoyable method for understanding ourselves, our world, and our place in it, and emphasize the importance of\u00a0reading\u00a0as a group practice for building communities of thought and activity.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bard\u00a0Reading\u00a0Initiative will provide support for approved groups by purchasing inexpensive copies of the selected book for all group members as well as refreshments for group meetings ($100 total). Groups should commit to meeting regularly at least four times throughout the semester.\u00a0 Receipts should be submitted to Antonio Ortiz at aortiz@bard.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

Interested students should submit a brief\u00a0proposal<\/a>\u00a0describing the book, the rationale for choosing it, and a list of at least three (3)\u00a0students committed to joining the\u00a0reading\u00a0group.\u00a0 In addition, please submit a note of support from a Bard\u00a0College faculty or staff member. Notes of support should be emailed to\u00a0gildersl@bard.edu<\/a>\u00a0with the subject line \u201cBRI\u00a0reading\u00a0groups.\u201d\u00a0 We will host an end-of-year reception to share thoughts about the whole experience!<\/p>\n
