- NDH Employee Health Service will email Ready Set notification, in order for health forms to be completed, prior to physical.
- The physical will be scheduled by Health Services personnel.
- Students will need to include information about vaccination dates and their health
- Physical Exam: Once the health form has been completed and submitted, the Hospital Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to the applicant and schedule a time for a free physical exam, to also include a blood draw, Covid, and TB test. ** Note this exam must be completed at the hospital to be considered for volunteer work.
- Background check: In accordance with hospital policy, a background check is run on individuals 18 years or older to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and hospital staff.
- Orientation: Once the applicant is cleared to begin volunteering, they will be invited to attend an orientation session with the Hospital Volunteer Coordinator. This session, which can be either in a group or one-on-one, will cover hospital protocols and privacy laws. The orientation will take approximately one hour and may include a site tour. If a larger group of students is accepted to volunteer, there is a possibility that the orientation will be conducted virtually. Students should bring their identification to the orientation and volunteer shifts.
- Scheduling Volunteer Hours: At or before the orientation, the student will coordinate with the Hospital Volunteer Coordinator to plan the volunteer’s schedule.
Other Important Details:
- On the first day of volunteer work, students will have their picture taken and receive a security badge.
- Students will need to arrive on time and commit to the agreed-upon day/times.
- If the student is unable to make the volunteer shift due to illness or other, they will need to alert the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the site supervisor to let them know.
- If the student is not feeling well or has any symptoms of illness they should not volunteer that day.
- All hospital staff, volunteers, patients, and guests are required to wear a mask while in the hospital.
- Students should wear appropriate business casual or professional attire as they will be working/volunteering in a professional setting. ( Depending on the volunteer area students may be given scrubs to wear).
- Note: Hospital recommendations for tattoos are if an individual has tattoos that may be showing, the tattoos will need to be appropriate in nature and not offensive to others. If students are unsure, it is always a good idea to wear clothing that may cover the tattoo.
