{"id":29,"date":"2021-09-14T13:55:32","date_gmt":"2021-09-14T13:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/conservatory-wiki\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2024-08-20T18:58:08","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T18:58:08","slug":"attendance-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/conservatory-wiki\/resources-and-guides\/attendance-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Attendance Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"AttendancePolicyforUndergraduate&amp;APSStudents-CONSERVATORYUNDERGRADUATE&amp;APSSTUDENTATTENDANCEPOLICY\">ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR UNDERGRADUATE (INSTRUMENTAL), IAP &amp; APS STUDENTS<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>The integrated curriculum and the interdependent and collegial nature of the Conservatory program makes attendance at, and promptness to, all lessons, coachings, classes, rehearsals and required performances\u00a0mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are expected to be in residence, living on or near campus while school is in session (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">including weekends<\/span>), and any absence from a curricular activity (for non-emergency reasons) requires submission of an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSetl4tLf_KFCVxNygIJa8mpiy7dpShLLU46Ln_8OsJ5bUj8_w\/viewform?usp=sf_link\"><strong>Absence Request Form<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in advance in order to be considered an\u00a0<em>excused absence<\/em>.\n<ul>\n<li>Please find the dates when school is in session on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bard.edu\/academics\/calendar\/\">Bard&#8217;s academic calendar<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>During the Fall Semester:\n<ul>\n<li>Absence requests <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do not<\/span> need to be submitted for Fall Break (Monday &amp; Tuesday). Absence requests <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do<\/span> need to be submitted for the Saturday &amp; Sunday before Fall Break. As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bard.edu\/academics\/calendar\/\">Bard&#8217;s academic calendar<\/a>, Fall Break only includes the Monday &amp; Tuesday (and not the Saturday &amp; Sunday before).<\/li>\n<li>Absence requests do not need to be submitted for Thanksgiving Break. As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bard.edu\/academics\/calendar\/\">Bard&#8217;s academic calendar<\/a>, Thanksgiving break begins at 5pm the day before Thanksgiving and goes through the Sunday following Thanksgiving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>During the Spring Semester:\n<ul>\n<li>Absence requests do not need to be submitted for the Spring Recess. As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bard.edu\/academics\/calendar\/\">Bard&#8217;s academic calendar<\/a>, the Spring Recess includes the two weekends on either side of the 5 day period (Monday-Friday) when classes are not in session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Early departures for, or late returns from, vacations &#8211; whether for reasons of reduced travel cost or for another reason &#8211; are not considered valid excuses for missing lessons, classes, rehearsals, or performances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical appointments should be scheduled outside of class or rehearsal time\u00a0<em>if at all possible<\/em>.
