Her research focuses on more-than-human species, environmental justice and the transformations of landscapes. She is the co-founder and artistic director of La Reserva Guatoc, a multidisciplinary residency in Barichara that seeks to create critical thinking through experimental forms in a cross-territorial dialogue between Latin America and the Caribbean. She also co-founded Espacio Ode\u00f3n, a contemporary arts center housed in an abandoned landmark movie theater in Bogot\u00e1\u2019s city center. Juliana has taught at the Universidad de Los Andes and is currently a Fellow at the Center for Human Rights and the Arts at Bard College.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15179\" src=\"https:\/\/chra.bard.edu\/files\/2023\/09\/5148-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"994\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/chra\/files\/2023\/09\/5148-4.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/chra\/files\/2023\/09\/5148-4-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bard.edu\/chra\/files\/2023\/09\/5148-4-500x331.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CHRA Fellow Juliana Steiner presents an immersive sound installation at the Bard Farm, followed by a dinner and conversation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The sound installation <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Entre la danza y el Mambeo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was created with members of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ruak+ Jafaik+ <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Kanasto de Abundancia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> collectives, based in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">north-east Amazon of Colombia, in collaboration with Tomsatyba-Reserve Richard Decaillet<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The sounds are offerings to the land and function as natural fertilizers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Juliana will share findings from a forthcoming book that grew out of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ecotone<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, her curatorial project created in Colombia as part of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Common Ground<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a festival on the politics of land and food, initiated by the Fisher Center at Bard, and supported by CHRA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The meal, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Envolviendo la Memoria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, prepared by chef Stephanie Bonnin, is based on recipes from the book, re-interpreted in the context of the Hudson Valley landscape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">co-presented by the Bard Farm.
