The trip was part of the student\u2019s first-year core course requirement (HRA 504: Collaborations &amp; Community), taught by CHRA Director, core faculty, and artist Tania El Khoury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over the span of four days, MA students attended eleven<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">different shows that included live art, visual art, sound installations, performance art, theater, dance, and live music:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">100 Keyboards<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by ASUNA, with Aki Onda<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CHRISTEENE<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">FUTURE SOLITUDE<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Kenyon Adams, Kayla Farrish, and Vinson Fraley<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">High Winds<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Sylvan Oswald<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MXTX: A Cross Border Exchange<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Golden Hornet, Graham Reynolds, Coka Trevi\u00f1o, Felipe P\u00e9rez Santiago, and Ori\u00f3n Garc\u00eda<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Michael C. Hall, Matt Katz-Bohen, and Peter Yanowitz<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SHABOOM!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Silky Shoemaker, Lex Vaughn, and Paul Soileau<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The It&#8217;s &#8216;Not&#8217; Fair<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with Michael Anthony, Garc\u00eda, Andie Flores &amp; Sam Lavigne, Cande Aguilar, hiba ali, ICOSA Collective, Jay Roff-Garcia, MASS Collective, M\u00f3nica Vega, Sam Lavigne, and Steve Parker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Plastic Bag Store<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Robin Frohardt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Whisperers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Leyya Mona Tawil, Henna Chou, Chris Cogburn, and Parham Daghighi<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yes, And<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Gesel Mason<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The group experienced dynamic and varied work in museums, galleries, theaters, warehouses, pop-up venues, and municipal parks across the city. The festival offered our students glimpses into the possibilities and intersections of approach, genre, venue, and context.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Expanding on the premise of El Khoury\u2019s course, students looked to identify the role of the artist in the works. They considered how different modes of collaboration play out between artists, the artwork itself, the community that informs it, and those that experience it. The trip also gave the students an opportunity to experience art outside of the purview of the Center\u2019s curatorial offerings and away from the New York City-centered art world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the packed schedule, the students were able to relax and meet with the artists, organizers, curators, and arts-loving locals. The group also had time to enjoy the local cuisines, paddleboard down the Colorado River, splash in Barton Springs, and bond over the trials and tribulations of group travel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The MA program at the OSUN Center for Human Rights &amp; the Arts seeks to provide a rich, holistic experience grounded in research, practice, and community engagement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experiential learning opportunities such as this one form a critical part of the MA program curriculum.
