Position Opening: Assistant to the Director

 Description:

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site (TCNHS) is now hiring for a new entry-level position that will be full time, reporting directly to the Executive Director. The opening is an ideal opportunity for a college graduate with excellent written and verbal communication skills who is looking to enter the museum field. The new hire will receive extensive on-the-job training in a fast paced environment, joining an excellent team of museum professionals. The TCNHS is a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial organization that offers ample opportunity to learn, grow, and take on more responsibilities over time. The position is open immediately.

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serve as the “right hand” for the Executive Director, taking responsibility for her to-do list and executing tasks such as conversing with donors, setting up meetings, returning phone calls, reminding her of deadlines and appointments, etc.
  • Writing a wide variety of letters and reports for the Executive Director, including acknowledgement letters, fundraising letters and reports to the board of trustees.
  • Drafting all manner of marketing materials including the members’ newsletter, email blasts, website updates, flyers, brochure text, etc.
  • Writing grant applications and creating other fundraising materials including personalized solicitations and giving reports.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate must be a graduate of a four-year college degree program and have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, a desire to learn and enter the museum field, and a passion for the TCNHS’s mission. He or she will be the utmost professional, collaborative and creative in his or her approach, problem solving and relationship building, and will contribute to the positive team spirit. The successful candidate will have a cheerful and positive outlook, the ability to juggle many projects at once, and the energy to enjoy an environment with many changes and rapid growth.

Full time, salary DOE.
