Title: Conservation Programs Intern
Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week with flexibility
Pay Status: $5,000 Stipend

Internship Summary:
The Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) is a nonprofit organization working to conserve the farmland, forests, wildlife habitat, and rural character of Columbia County, strengthening connections between people and the land. CLC is offering a summer internship opportunity to assist staff with our agricultural programming and land conservation efforts. The ideal candidate should have an interest in conservation and sustainable agriculture, enjoy hands-on work, have experience with GIS/GPS, and a willingness to perform indoor and outdoor tasks. General knowledge of local flora and fauna is helpful, but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Create/update maps of current conditions on protected properties countywide Assist with annual monitoring of protected lands Research stewardship/land management techniques for future landowner newsletters Habitat management, including invasive species control efforts Research farmland accessibility models, funding sources for farmland access and protection, and other topics as needed Maintain and update database of farmers and landowners Accompany staff on site visits to farms interested in applying for federal funding Assist with preparation of applications for farmland protection funding Assist in organizing various events, workshops and outreach efforts Assist with preparing and coordinating mailings Assist CLC staff as needed.

Requirements and Basic Qualifications:
Preferred candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one or more of the following areas of study: natural resources, wildlife biology, botany, sustainable agriculture, conservation science, public policy, communications, environmental studies, or related field Must be competent with GPS and GIS technologies Must be comfortable working in an outdoor settings Organized, attention to detail Interested in learning about farmland access and tenure, farm transitions, and farmland protection Experience with Office Suite, specifically Excel and Access Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects A valid driver’s license and transportation (mileage reimbursed at 30 cents per mile)
